| (then press F5) Cease Fire!!! is a national event dedicated to making any and everyone aware of the growing necessity for gun reform. It is also a goal of this event to make the public aware of the depth of destruction happening in our own backyards. We cannot continue to look the other way due to fear, indifference or simply because the violence is not directly related to our immediate families. The truth is, the more we ignore the problem the bigger it gets. Let's make a collective effort to cease gunfire, get to the root of the crisis, and put a dent in the devastation being brought upon our society. Once the dent is made, elimination will be within reach. Join us in this extraordinary move toward a safer, more civilized life. One life saved can make a huge difference. The most frightening part of helping is getting involved. ---Diane Ridley Roberts--- With all that goes on in our daily lives, we may believe we don't have to get involved with other poeple and their issues, yet we must. Perhaps we think if we do not see or hear about the problems, they will go away, but they will not. People of color are a communal people. That means the community is our lifeline. African, Latin, Native American and Asian cultures are cultures of "we" not "I". We cannot consider ourselves free, prosperous, successful or at peace as long as anyone who looks like us suffers. We cannot help every- body, but you can help somebody. We cannot do everything, but you can do something. If we each participate in a cause, if we each battle an ill, if we each contribute time or money to someone for something, a great deal could be done. If we each shoulder a bit of the responsibiltiy for us, we can progress faster.

| "We Have A Constitutional Right" One thing is certain - The people have a right to bear arms. The Supreme Court has made that quite obvious. Keeping that in mind, also know that our past generations are having tantrums in their graves. The argument is not about the rights we have under the constitution, it's about the abusive use of those rights. Under natural law, which is Godly law (The Ten Commandments) it's clearly stated that "thou shall not kill". Somewhere along the line, we have become commentators and advocates for gun violence. Everyone is looking for somewhere to place the blame. The criminals blame law enforcement and innocent civilians blame law enforcement and the criminals. It's all quite chaotic. The blame should rest solely on the politicians that are allowing the gun companies to produce weapons to slaughter our people in massive amounts. Why? Simply because we all know who has the power to stop these gunslingers. Lavish cottage industry political sluts rent their services to any of numerous corporate "johns". The gun companies are the biggest "tricks" in Washington. Their credentials are evident in every corpse that's riddled with bullet holes. We expect conflict to arise from all companies related to the gun business. However, we are in the business of keeping people alive and are ready to clash. We are aware that there will be critics. That's why we're not asking for donations and prefer to just fundraise for the cause. We sell buttons and stickers for one dollar to promote the event and begin our collection of signatures. The stickers should be placed any and everywhere because it's only about saving lives. Our petition to request a reform of these outlandish gun laws that are constantly taking the lives of the innocent will be presented to all appropriate parties involved. We seem to think that an elected leader can bring forth change which is naive thinking. Change starts inside of us. Leaders only represent the change we stand for. On **Cease Fire Day**9/26/09**, we ask for everyone's participation. There is no reason for police, firemen, farmers, construction workers, teachers or anyone else to not be able to come home to their families at night because of stray bullets. People kill people, not guns. We have to consider the possibility that policemen may use excessive force because they are scared to death. It really is no longer about police brutality as much as it is about lack of communication. It is no longer a complexion thing. We are strictly in a "show me the money" state where people are allowing others to die in rapid fashion. The justice system is a billion dollar industry. There's a reason for someone carrying an illegal firearm to get a minimal sentence (approx. 33 months) and someone charged with a drug crime to receive a sentence of approximately 120 months. That is absolutely ridiculous. The reason is that typical drug dealers don't have the high powered lobbiest to persuade the politicians. If they did, drug would be legal by now. This is why we need to organize from within. There is no need to run to the capital because those in the whitehouse are not dying in the streets - We Are!!! We have to force the whitehouse to come to us. Cease Gunfire starts as soon as you walk out of your door; for some it starts right inside of your own dwelling. Imagine being inside of your home and a bullet comes through your window and strikes down your child. This has happened numerous times all across this nation. Don't wait until something happens to one of your loved ones to cry for a change and a resoulution to the madness. "Prevention Is Better Than The Cure". The law of God makes everyone a loved one. We are not only disgusted by the amount of human beings affected by gun violence, we are not standing for it any longer!!! We are campaigning against the blatant disregard for human lives and the dishonest political schemes going on. We propose this as one of the major changes that need to be made. Let's see which way the presidential candidates will sway. We're expecting millions of signatures which means there will be ample promotion to get everyone involved. This Cease Gunfire movement begins with one day, and expands to everyday after that. It goes from every block, to every town, to every county, to every state and finally becomes the national event intended. Spread the word. Let's collaborate to save all our communities from gunfire. We will not look for other people to protect our children any longer. Start today by telling everyone you know about this event. Change will only come about when everyone stands up for themselves. Don't look for the cowards in the street to stand up because they feel that's their livelihood. The reality is that their livelihood is someone else's death sentence. There are also going to be victims who won't participate because of their loyalty to some fictitious street code. We are loyal to peace and happiness. How about you? It starts one problem at a time. America's problems can only be solved by us; the people!!! The President only represents the people; the people lead this country in every direction. It's very easy to accept bribes to sellout mankind. There is no bribe large enough to ignore a husband who didn't live to see 25 years of life to take 25 bullets. The same goes for an officer being gunned down in the line of duty. It doesn't matter - It needs to STOP!!! We're all aware of who benefits from letting violent recidivists out of prison. The gun companies make more money selling illegal guns than legal ones. This matter needs immediate ACTION!!! The only person who can make a change is YOU!!!
Over nothing: Upset beau thought he heard something, shoots B'klyn man dead in streetBY Henrick Karolisyn and Jonathan Lemire DAILY NEWS WRITERS Monday, July 6th 2009, 4:00 AM Nakie Hector was shot to death in a street argument in one of several violent July Fourth incidents in Brooklyn. A Brooklyn man was fatally shot through the heart after a gunman mistakenly thought he was trying to flirt with the man's girlfriend, devastated relatives and police said on Sunday. Nakie Hector, 30, was heading home with his brother and a friend from a July 4 barbecue Saturday when they were confronted by another man outside the Rockaway Ave. C train station in Brownsville at 10:15 p.m., police said. The thug believed Hector was catcalling at his girlfriend - even though the victim's brother said he was just talking loudly on his cell phone. "The guy thought my brother was talking to him and his girl," said Terrence Hector, blinking back tears. "We tried to squash the situation by walking away." As the trio turned to walk onto Rockaway Ave., the outraged boyfriend pulled a handgun from his waistband and started firing, witnesses said. "I heard fireworks. Then I heard something else that wasn't [fireworks]," said neighbor Nathaniel Frost, whose apartment overlooks the spot where Hector was shot. "It was much louder." "I saw someone lying on the ground," Frost said. "He wasn't moving." Three bullets tore though Nakie Hector's back and one pierced his heart, relatives said. "We tried to keep him up when he was down [after he got shot]," said Terrence Hector, who tried to revive his brother in front of the Pay-o-Matic check cashing store. "It was too late." Nakie Hector died two hours later at Brookdale University Hospital, police said. No one else was injured. The gunman and his girlfriend ran, and police are still looking for them. Hector's mother insisted that her son had never seen his killer or the woman before. "He was an innocent person coming home," said Goenia Hector. "This was a random act of violence [and] a terrible loss for the family." Hector had been working as a baby-sitter and spoke often of leaving Brooklyn, friends said. "He always talked about moving away and he'll never get that chance," said Mike Chin, the friend who was with the Hector brothers at the time of the shooting. "He was respectful. He was funny," said Chin. "I still can't believe he's dead." jlemire@nydailynews.com The media gets articles from these incidents, the gun makers and sellers make a profit from the weapons used. At the same time families are torn and live in pain while those not directly affected have turn their heads (this includes congress). A change must start today. WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a sweeping ban on handguns in the nation's capital violated the Second Amendment right to bear arms. The justices struck down the ban in a 5-4 decision, with Justice Antonin Scalia writing the opinion for the majority.
Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty said he was disappointed in the ruling but will give the district's police department 21 days to implement a process for registering handguns. It still will be illegal to carry handguns outside the home, and all pistols must be registered with police.
Officials said a hot line would be set up to handle questions about the new regulations.
"It is important to respect the court's authority and to act quickly," Fenty said. Watch how the city will revamp its policy.
The case's lead plaintiff, Dick Heller, applauded the decision, saying, "I'm very happy that I am now able to defend myself and my household in my own home."
Paul Helmke of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said his group had a mixed reaction to the decision.
Helmke said the group disagrees with the court's interpretation of the Second Amendment but that the ruling "still allows common-sense gun control laws, restrictions to make us all safer."
The National Rifle Association said the high court had given it the ammunition to challenge other cities' gun-control measures.
At issue in District of Columbia v. Heller was whether Washington's ban violated the right to "keep and bear arms" by preventing individuals -- as opposed to state militias -- from having guns in their homes.
"Undoubtedly some think that the Second Amendment is outmoded in a society where our standing army is the pride of our nation, where well-trained police forces provide personal security and where gun violence is a serious problem.
District of Columbia officials argued they had the responsibility to impose "reasonable" weapons restrictions to reduce violent crime, but several Washingtonians challenged the 32-year-old law. Some said they had been constant victims of crimes and needed guns for protection.
"The Constitution leaves the District of Columbia a variety of tools for combating that problem, including some measures regulating handguns," Scalia wrote. "But the enshrinement of constitutional rights necessarily takes certain policy choices off the table. These include the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home."
Breyer, however, argued in his dissent that the framers of the Constitution did not present self-defense as their main reason for the Second Amendment.
"The self-defense interest in maintaining loaded handguns in the home to shoot intruders is not the primary interest, but at most a subsidiary interest," he wrote. "The Second Amendment's language, while speaking of a 'militia,' says nothing of 'self-defense.' "
The NRA, Disabled Veterans for Self-Defense and the transgender group Pink Pistols -- along with 31 states -- filed briefs supporting the District of Columbia's gun owners.
After the ruling, Wayne LaPierre of the NRA said his organization would immediately file court challenges to the bans in Chicago and San Francisco. Watch the NRA chief say there will be more lawsuits »
In a statement, President Bush also praised the decision, saying he agreed with the court's interpretation of the Constitution.
"As a longstanding advocate of the rights of gun owners in America, I applaud the Supreme Court's historic decision today confirming what has always been clear in the Constitution: the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear firearms," Bush said.
"I also agree with the Supreme Court's conclusion that the D.C. firearm laws violate this fundamental constitutional right. The District of Columbia should now swiftly move to ensure that its residents' rights under the Second Amendment are fully protected," he said.
In January, Bush signed the first major gun-control legislation in 14 years, strengthening background checks on gun buyers. Political momentum for the bill increased after the Virginia Tech shootings last year, when a student shot and killed 32 people and then himself.
Again, everybody's looking at the issues surrounding constitutional rights. We've entrusted a few individuals to interpret for us as if we're foreigners. Why is no one paying attention to the senseless deaths caused by gun violence? Why doesn't it matter? Why have we become so easily disposable? Why has it become easier to look away than to deal with the real problem? LET'S WAKE UP!!!
